On honesty

“If you are good, you are guided by honesty. People who can’t be trusted are destroyed by their own dishonesty.” – Proverbs 11:3

Everyone has gone through an act of dishonesty; whether he/she is a street vendor that has cheated a customer of some change, a woman who is about to go through an abortion, or even a student who has gotten an A plus out of sneaking a peak form his seatmate. Lying, stealing, cheating and practically any sin, however small or humongous can lead to a distinct emotion which is a feeling of hotness rushing through your veins when you know you have done something wrong. The feeling itself is but part of human nature and is when your conscience drives you to go against your desires. With this in mind, I would like to ask you. Have you been charged with the act of dishonesty?

Look around you and see for yourself. Point a finger at them and they will deny it or blame others who are doing it so they will look like victims of “peer pressure.” The more you participate in it, the more you and others get sucked into the quicksand of guilt, which swallows you up, inch-by-inch until there’s nothing left.

Fight that temptation of dishonesty, not by blaming others but by humility. Fight it, not with just words and empty promises but with perseverant action. Fight it, not with a guilt-filled conscience but with a God-fearing heart. Fight it, not by yourself but with the strength of unity. For with that one small step, however difficult it may be, you will find that you are running ever so closer to that finish line. When you reach that finish line, you suddenly realize that you have been freed of guilt.
