The Choice That You Make Will Make You Who You Are!

(matagal na po ito...ngayon ko lang naisipang ipost)

The first time that I heard this philosophy of life from a particular successful and happy mentor of ours, I can’t help  but to question my very own existence if I have become what I am today because of the decisions I made yesterday. It somehow leads me to deeper reflection. Honestly speaking, I was struck from within by the truth and boldness it holds. I begin asking myself whether or not am I happy of the choices I made before.

Basically, most of the people are not firm or sure of their decisions in life. Sometimes our decisions are affected or influenced by the people around us or by the events to which we are directly or indirectly involved. In other case, it is due to lack of courage that we occasionally end up entrusting our future to the wheel of fortune, saying “Bahala na!” As a consequence, we find ourselves not happy, discontented and worse is, we blame other people for our failures. We usually regret at the end because we have made the wrong decisions.

With this significant realization I have, my eyes are opened to the truth that I made a wrong decision. Perhaps, this is not the kind of life I am destined to live. Good news is, it is not too late for me to stand up, make another choice and go for it whatever happens as long as I would be happy. I choose to be happy! It is true that it is our own choice which determines our future. If you choose to be a doctor, a priest, a teacher or whatsoever, then you can be provided that you will strive for it with all honesty, determination and perseverance. As what someone perfectly said, “If there’s a will, there’s a way.”

Furthermore, Martin Heidegger beautifully philosophizes, “A man is not what he is but what he is not.” It simply means that I can be the person that I want to be. I can change myself to a better one. If today I fail, I am positive that tomorrow I will succeed. I am the master of my own destiny. To reiterate, our choice is very important. Indeed, it will make you who you are!
